In most cases, UCLan Cyprus does not require an interview if you meet all the entry requirements. Similarly, the Cyprus Embassy or Immigration authorities reserve the right to request an interview as part of the visa application review process.
Academic gaps are acceptable with valid justification and supporting documents.

Cyprus issues international student visa (entry permits) only for a full time study (full time international students), and students must maintain full time enrollment and regular attendance to their classes.
Failure to engage with academic studies (e.g. absences, missing submission deadlines of assessments, etc.) can lead to withdrawal from the University, and the student will be reported to the Migration Authorities, and potential revocation of the student’s residence permit.

Processing times can vary according to the Cyprus Migration Authority’s workload and the academic intake period. The processing time is beyond the University’s control.
Applicants should expect several weeks to a few months between submission of a complete international student visa application and a decision by the Cyprus Migration Authority. To allow sufficient time for the processing, applicants should promptly respond to the University’s Admissions &Recruitment Department requests for any documents required, so that the application can be completed the soonest possible and submitted to the Cyprus Migration Authority.
The decision for the approval and issuance of the international student visa for international students is solely within the authority of the Migration Department of the Republic of Cyprus, and does not fall under the control or the responsibility of the University. The University’s responsibility is to guide the international students through the steps and documentation needed for their student visa application process, follow the guidance from and instructions issued by the Migration Department and Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth of the Republic of Cyprus, from time to time, and review and submit the student’s documents on time.
It is the responsibility of the international students to ensure they follow the University’s guidance and student visa application process, without delays.
Usually, No. UCLan Cyprus typically submits your visa application directly to Cyprus immigration on your behalf. As soon as international students arrive in Cyprus, they must complete the below tasks:
- Report to the University for registration, orientation, induction and to receive further instructions regarding their international student residence/permit.
- Open a local bank account and deposit the minimum required funds. It is required that all international students in Cyprus must open a bank account with a local bank and deposit the minimum required amount (usually at least €1,000) to demonstrate access to funds. Students will need to visit one of the local banks with their passport, university registration confirmation letter and housing contract to open the account and deposit the required funds.
- Undergo the required medical examinations.
- Submit all the necessary documents so that their student temporary residence permit application can be submitted.
- Once an appointment has been arranged, students must register at the District Aliens and Immigration Unit of the Police and provide the relevant medical certificates within the time limit (generally within one week to 10 days), as required by Cyprus law.
The temporary student residence permit is issued by the Cyprus Civil Registry and Migration Department once all post arrival documents mentioned in question 10 have been submitted and processed. Once students arrive in Cyprus, they must complete the residence permit formalities with the Cyprus Civil Registry and Migration Department or local District Aliens and Immigration Unit, within the stipulated period (usually within one week to 10 days from their arrival in Cyprus).
UCLan Cyprus’ Admissions & Recruitment Department provides students with guidance and, where required, assists in organising student group appointments and documents for the temporary student residence permit application. After the submission of the application, students should keep in contact with the University's Admissions & Recruitment Department and follow their guidance, as they will inform them when their document is ready for collection or when they receive a decision.
Processing times vary, but once the student submits their application to the District Aliens and Immigration Unit of the Police, the student’s legal status is covered by their application and receipts, while their permit is being finalized, provided all requirements are met.
The Cyprus Migration Portal specifies that international student residence permits are granted for one year and are renewable, provided the renewal application is made at least one month before expiry.
International students are responsible to contact the University’s Admissions & Recruitment Department (internationalvisascy@uclan.ac.uk) at least 2 months before the expiration of their international student residence permits expires, so that they can receive guidance and support on the renewal process and required documentation (e.g. enrolment, bank, insurance, medical examinations/records).
